This is a prototype for My First Game Jam, Winter 2020. The feature I aimed to prototype is a temperature-based GUI element in the form of two circles centered on the player: A red circle that indicates overheating (see by pressing F and then spacebar a few times) and a circle that is "cut out" of a frosty-looking overlay. This circle will shrink into view as the player stands around without the flame active.

Controls:

  • WASD/Arrow keys to move
  • F to activate your flame
  • Space while flame is active to create a flame whirl.
  • Flame whirl "melts" snow, revealing rock underneath.
  • Blue overlay shows hypothermia -- if it touches you, you'll pass out!
  • Red overlay shows hyperthermia -- if it covers the screen, you'll pass out, too!
  • Flame whirl melts nearby Frostbites, who will decrease your core temperature if they attack.

Known bugs:

  • If the player turns off their flame while in the middle of the flame whirl, the whirl stays visible at whatever frame it was on.

Oh! What an interesting exploring mechanic. This could become a good story-telling game. Thank you for making it. 😄

Pretty good. It's fun.
